Dear All,
It has been all go at the Riverside Community Centre recently!
With the imminent departure of our much-valued caretaker Nic, we have been spending time trying to identify a suitable replacement. We knew she would be a hard act to follow, and this is proving to be true!
I am thankful that Lisa B has volunteered to help me with identifying information and posters to add to this website. I must admit I didn’t realise how much time was needed to keep a few pages updated and relevant. If anyone else can support this page with ideas, news items, or even keeping the posts up to date, I would be very grateful. I am at the centre on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning and am happy to chat.
Often people ask if they can book the RCC spaces for events, meetings, and courses etc The timetable for bookings is becoming increasingly squeezed as we become busier. I have always tried to offer alternatives if I am unable to fit someone in, but as venues tend to be run by part-time workers/volunteers, the necessary information is not shared easily.
Fortunately, Lisa B has done the leg work for us all and has identified venues which hire out spaces and has provided me with booking details etc. I have used this to create a simple post which hopefully will be found useful by many. I am aware that not everyone who has a space to hire as been included. If you hold any further details such as the Parish or Methodist Churches, please do let me know and they will be added. The post is on the first page of this site and on Facebook.
Please remember that although I post on Facebook as the Riverside Community Centre every week, there are many people who do not follow social media and so potentially are missing out. With the aim of being as paperless as possible, leaflets are seldom used to advertise. Please do pass on our site details or share anything you see that you think might be useful.
I am always happy to publicise whatsoever that enriches the lives of anyone who lives in or near Bovey Tracey.
Many thanks,
Volunteers Needed!
Do you have any time to support the growth of this website? Having only 15 hours a week to manage the community centre, I am finding it quite challenging to keep things up to date. These are some of the activities I could use help with:
Identifying events taking place locally (I tend to research through Facebook but there are other sources out there.)
Creating posters for events where details are available. (Using Word or Canva.)
Writing paragraphs for this site about things that have happened or are about to.
Deleting out of date posts on the website.
Or anything else that you can see that needs doing!
If you think you could help with just one of these then I would love to hear from you! Or any ideas you might have about how to improve things. hello@boveytraceyhub.co.uk
Thank you for reading this.
ps. if you have signed up to receive the newsletter, you will receive a version of the above very soon.
Better Housing Better Health (BHBH) is a not-for-profit service run by the National Energy Foundation, working to help residents living in or at risk of living in fuel poverty to access advice and support.
We are a service that is free of charge and open to all residents experiencing issues with keeping warm at home.
As part of our service, we have a helpline that’s free to call where our team can give valuable tips on how to stay warm at home, help to arrange free home energy visits, sign up those in need of additional support to the Priority Services Register and access grants for energy efficiency measures. We understand the physical and mental effects of living in a cold home, and we feel it is more important than ever to ensure everyone is living in a warm and happy household.
We also have emergency fuel vouchers worth £49 to assist residents who use a prepayment meter – these must be accessed via a support organisation such as yourselves.
We also work with numerous local authorities to manage their ECO Flex applications and have the security of our well-established Supplier Network, which makes up a list of certified and experienced installers.

Hi there!
I run Jolly Melodies music classes weekly on Thursday mornings from the Riverside Community Centre - 10am for toddlers and preschoolers, 11am for babies under 14 months
It’s £6.50 per session and we enjoy half term themed blocks of classes - we are currently enjoying our festive block but there are spaces available.
Classes can be booked by email to the address above, or via my Facebook page (see link)
or by messaging Lou on 07773029234
On Tuesday the 26th November we are proud to have launched a new Bovey Tracey Social Supermarket!
A place to get lots of affordable food for £4.50!
Help with the rising cost of living as well as reducing food waste.
It’s a first come first served system and we have no idea how many of you will come along, so please bear with us whilst we work out how much stock we need each week.
There will be a free table for donations too so if you need to clear space in your cupboards you know where to bring your unwanted food!
Please come and support.
Open from 3pm every Tuesday.
Don't be confused (like I was!)...the community fridges in Bovey and Bickington are for everyone to use. Their purpose is to save food waste, not necessarily to save money (although it does do that too!). Pop along to your local community fridge and have a look. You will find food which should still be edible, within it's 'use by' life and still be great to consume.
Do you fancy taking part in some projects/activities with us?
If you would like to try your hand at some starter level activities such as; textiles, baking, arts & crafts, wood work, gardening, digital skills, hair & Nails, candle & jewellery making. Then we have all of the resources to facilitate that for you.
We offer it all in a really positive and relaxed environment.
You can book 1hour sessions at £10 per hour at times that are convenient to you. Please drop us a message if you would like to come and have a look around before signing up.
Free tickets are now available for Thursday afternoon's Bounce & Rhyme and Stay & Play, click the link to book: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/.../bounce-rhyme-tickets...
If you should book a space and then find you can't attend, please do cancel your ticket on Eventbrite or by contacting the library, so that someone else can have you place. We have a waiting list most weeks so this really helps as many people attend as possible. Thank you!
